Global coffee production reached 178 million 60-kilogram bags as of 2022/2023, increasing from about 169 million 60-kilogram bags in 2021/2022. The majority of the world’s coffee is produced by South America, specifically Brazil.
Leading coffee producers
In 2020, Brazil produced 69 million 60-kilogram bags of coffee. Vietnam is the second leading producer of coffee, at 29 million 60-kilogram bags of coffee in that year. Brazil also exports a higher volume of coffee than Vietnam, at about 3.2 million 60-kilogram bags as of January 2022.
Coffee consumption in the United States
Coffee is one of the most popular beverages in the United States. Americans on average consume a little under two cups of coffee on a daily basis. Coffee consumption seems to generally increase with age, with 18 to 19 years old consuming about one cup of coffee per day, and Americans aged 70 years or older consuming over two cups of coffee per day. As of 2024, the most popular kind of coffee brewer among American consumers is the drip coffee maker.
